Please take a look at our scheduled events for the Middle Georgia area.  These events serve to educate and empower Middle Georgia parents, educators and caretakers regarding their children's educations.

Saturday 12/6/2025 | Macon

Georgia Promise Postcard Party, Saturday, 2:30 -4:30 pm

Location: 1676 Bass Road, Macon

Come volunteer and write postcards with us for Bibb, Houston and Peach county families as we raise awareness for the Georgia Promise Scholarship Program for families whose children are zoned for underperforming schools that qualify.  This event is a form of community outreach to inform families about the scholarship which provides up to $6,500 annually for eligible students to use for private school tuition, tutoring, transportation and other educational expenses.  By writing these postcards, you can help ensure eligible families are aware of the scholarship and can choose the best educational path for their children.  Food is included.

Opening Youth Service, Sunday, 9:30 - 10:30 am

Location: Universal Light Christian Center, 3220 Napier Avenue, Macon

Join the Universal Light Christian Center in the opening ceremony for our two-week celebration of School Choice events.  Come hear about all of the youth programs and youth services they offer the community, including their tutoring program.

Calling all education entrepreneurs!  Come learn about how to start your own school space to answer a community issue.  Learn about funding concerns, licensing and all considerations when thinking about how to go forward.  Community leaders in the space of microschools will be in attendance. Come with questions and leave with resources.

Come watch the student-centered play that spans generations of educational choices for Middle Georgia residents.  Winners of the School Choice Creative Writing competition will be announced here.  Tickets will be sold the door.  Cash only. How to Open a Charter School

Location: Middle Georgia State University, 100 University Parkway, Teacher Education Building, Room 231, Macon, GA, 6:00 - 7:30 pm

This community meeting will discuss the steps for considering and opening a charter school.  Case studies will include local schools such as Central Georgia Technical College Warner Robins' campus' Regional Healthcare High School, recipient of the Bloomberg Philanthropies grant and other state-wide charter school initiatives.  Georgia Charter School Association will lead the discussion.

Strategizing your Middle Schoolers Opportunities for Advanced Academic Enrichment Using Dual Enrollment, 11 am - 12 pm

Location: Online

Give your middle schooler a head start on college!  Learn how families in Georgia can take advantage of dual enrollment classes, pick the right courses and create a plan that fits your student's goals.  Tips for neurodivergent learners will be discussed to help guide parents deciding between academic and career-based dual enrollment opportunities. The founder of Middle Georgia's first Dual Enrollment program designed specifically for middle school students will lead this discussion and teach you how to have this opportunity for your own child.

Transformation Tuesday: How to Homeschool: Insights from the Middle Georgia Melanated Homeschool Collective, 6:30 -7:30 pm

This discussion is open to the public to include parents and caregivers currently homeschooling and those who are considering homeschooling.  Led by the Middle Georgia Melanated Homeschool Collective which has a strong Facebook presence and following, leader Shannon Beacham will walk participants through the process of considering curriculum and community resources to make homeschooling successful.

Watch Wednesday:  Left Behind Documentary, 74 minutes

                                         Zoe & Cookie: 60 Years After Desegregation, 12 minutes

Location: The Douglass Theatre, 355 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd., Macon, GA

Left Behind is a documentary that follows six determined mothers fighting within the New York City Public School system to open a free public school to give access to effective reading intervention to all children.  From October 25- November 2, there is a free screening of the documentary on the documentary's Facebook page.

King's Table Men's Ministry Meeting, 1 pm - 2 pm

Location: The Tubman Museum, 310 Cherry Street, Macon, GA

Men of all ages are invited to fellowship as we close out the two-week School Choice Week in Middle Georgia. Men who are fathers, grandfathers, uncles, brothers, etc. are invited to come to the Tubman early to take part in the fair and then fellowship with men in the community.  We welcome you!
